Responsible for performing tasks involving physical labor at residential and commercial construction job projects. Constructs, erects, installs, and/or repairs structures and fixtures made from wood and other various materials.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare job project layout and assists in determining dimensions and materials required.
  • Constructs and repairs structural woodwork and equipment working from blueprints, drawings, or instructions.
  • Cuts and shapes materials to prescribed measurements using hand and power tools.
  • Anchors and braces forms, and other structures in place using such fasteners as nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges and timbers.
  • Builds and/or repairs frameworks, floors, doors, cabinets and other wooden fixtures used in residential and commercial buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, and power tools.
  • Lays out and installs moldings, baseboards, doorframes, doors, windows, paneling, cabinets, hardwood floors, stairs, partitions, and other interior and exterior trim using hand and power tools.
  • Constructs rough wooden frameworks for buildings; installs rough window and door frames, partitions, sub-flooring, and sheathing on outer walls and roofs.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Builds concrete forms, scaffolds, platforms, screening fences, and temporary shelters on the job site.
  • Finishes surfaces of woodwork or wallboard in houses and buildings, using paint, hand tools, and paneling.
  • Inspects all work to ensure quality and accuracy with levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintains accurate labor records, charge out materials and landfill tickets properly tracking them to the appropriate job. Scans in to correct cost codes.
  • Follows all established safety rules and regulations, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and always maintain a safe and clean environment on the jobsite.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed at all times as they are outlined in the DeLeers Construction, Inc. Employee Handbook.
  • Always take responsibility for the care and use of all company-owned equipment which is part of the day-to-day work function.
  • Represent the Company in a professional manner, and always exhibit courteous and respectful behavior on the jobsite (to fellow co-workers, subcontractors, customers, etc.).
  • Participate in company training programs and attend authorized external conferences or seminars as required to keep current in company and industry standards and operating.

Work Relationships and Scope:

Works closely with carpenter and painter superintendents and all other carpenters and painters. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Educational background equivalent to a high school education with some course work in skilled crafts or trades training, similar work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend basic written instructions, read a ruler, and have a good basic math skills and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must have good knowledge of the materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction and repair of houses, buildings, or other structures, and the ability to work safely with all types of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Carpenter Superintendent

Responsible for the supervision of a small to medium-sized crew of skilled and unskilled workers assigned to individual projects. Work is performed under general direction of a construction superior (such as a Senior Superintendent, Project Manager or Field Training Supervisor) and is subject to periodic review by superiors for results obtained, changes in work methods, and adherence to company policies.

The Superintendent provides direction, leadership, supports and holds all field crew responsible and accountable for meeting their responsibilities, goals, commitments and provides the necessary information and leadership in this regard. Superintendents handle all aspects related to personnel management on site.  They make decisions pertaining to production on a daily basis.  They may work side by side with carpenters, laborers and subs, so they must have the capability to manually complete any activity. 

The Construction Superintendent is responsible for, although not limited to: scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising, assisting in cost control and ensuring the safety, consistent and fair application of all policies and procedures, proper apprentice training and productivity of all crews at the worksite.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Carpenter Superintendent has the following specific areas of responsibility:

Leadership and Supervision

The superintendent coordinates crews, is accountable for the efficient organization of crews and must understand and consistently apply the company’s and owners policies and procedures.  The superintendent is required to be involved in and supportive of any day-to-day disciplinary decisions and those additional discipline actions deemed appropriate by a superior.

This will include:

  • Ordering manpower and assigning crew tasks as required.
  • Assessing competency and capability of tradespersons; evaluating crew capability, training, coaching to ensure that the crew meets required levels of quality.
  • Regularly communicating jobsite progress and happenings to the Senior Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
  • Supporting job training for apprentices and facilitating mentoring of apprentices by carpenters.
  • Recognizing, addressing and resolving issues/problems among/between crew(s).
  • Setting and maintaining work standards and outlining behavioral expectations to ensure crew morale and productivity. Ensuring crew compliance with all project policies and procedures.
  • Applying the company’s corrective action policy where applicable.
  • Applying the principles of workplace respect on site.
  • Mentoring foremen, carpenters, laborers and apprentices.

Planning and Scheduling: 

The superintendent is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that crews under his/her direction perform daily and weekly activities to meet production goals.

This will include:

  • Identifying and/or verifying that the field installation work, which includes all tools and materials required by the crew are available and complete.
  • Identifying needs and deficiencies in the look ahead plan/schedule and communicating these to the appropriate persons.
  • In-depth involvement in the development, monitoring and managing of the job planners/pull schedules.
  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for each crew.
  • Reviewing and adjusting specific workplace activities and task schedules to meet established production schedules.
  • Working closing with the crews to overcome work challenges.
  • Identifying, verifying and reporting any scheduling conflicts with other crews and contractors to the appropriate persons.
  • Communicating and coordinating with other trades to avoid and resolve conflicts.

Quality Control

The superintendent is accountable for ensuring the work done meets standards, and for implementing work processes to improve productivity and product quality.

This will include:

  • Overseeing the execution of the work by all crew members and subcontractors, including quality and production, by ensuring that they work to job specifications and follow drawings.
  • Reviewing inspection reports and coordinating resolutions to deficiencies
  • Ensuring that every job project task is fully completed in a timely manner and to owner specifications and DeLeers quality standards (i.e. punch list completion).

Safety

The superintendent must champion and provide leadership that results in a safe work culture.  He/she is responsible and accountable for the safety of all the crews under his/her direction and must understand and accept the importance and legal liability of the role. 

 This will include:

  • Knowing and clearly understanding the requirements of and liabilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA).
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with safety regulations (OSHA Regulation and Code) and safety policies and procedures.
  • Identifying needs for crew safety training and facilitating delivery of some of the training.
  • Instructing and training of field crew in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools in job techniques and skills.
  • Participation in, facilitation of, and monitoring of the “safety tool box meetings.”
  • Helping to expedite answers to any technical safety questions.
  • Participating in, facilitation of, safety/incident investigations and reviews.
  • Ensuring timely responses, actions and corrections to any safety issues.

Administration:  

The superintendent is accountable for the preparation and review of work reports as required by the company.

This will include:

  • Ensuring daily logs and planners are maintained.
  • Preparing and maintaining 2-week look-ahead schedules with tools, equipment, material and labor needed.
  • Preparing and updating 2-month job planners.
  • Reporting on crew production, work progress and changes.
  • Approving material requisitions to address any deficiencies.
  • Completing quality control reports when required.
  • Completing required information or data.
  • Entering time daily and accurately in hh2 time system.
  • Reading and responding (when necessary) to email messages daily.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Significant carpentry experience and knowledge in order to manage medium to large sized construction projects (residential and commercial) as assigned. Significant knowledge of the materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction and repair of houses, buildings, or other structures, and the ability to work safely with all types of hand and power tools.

Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and superintendents are regularly subject to variable weather conditions that include inclement weather, rain, extreme heat and humidity, with regular exposure to dust.  Carpentry work is primarily physical and often strenuous.  Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling are often necessary.  A regular exposure to injury exists due to frequent work with moving mechanical parts, sharp or rough materials, using sharp tools and power equipment, and working in situations where there is risk of slips and falls.  Hours of work will generally average 40 to 44 hours a week.  There will be some variation in work hours due to project work levels, deadlines, and other customer needs and/or issues.

Estimator

Under the general direction of the Estimating Team Lead, the Estimator is responsible for assisting with take-offs and obtaining and analyzing bids from suppliers and subcontractors.       

This position helps coordinate bidding, buyout, contract award, and budgets for multiple job projects.                                                        

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and perform accurate labor and material takeoffs according to DeLeers' procedures. Ensure that all paperwork and information necessary to the bid preparation is complete and ready for submission.    
  • Maintain complete understanding and knowledge of DeLeers pricing policies to ensure that pricing is correct on all bids and that the company is earning appropriate margins for each project.
  • Determine standard vs. non-standard pricing based on the specifications of the project and standard vs. non-standard availability of materials and scope of work involved. Ensure that any special pricing has been confirmed for non-standard bid projects.
  • Assist Business Development Associates in the assembly of project budgets.  Ensure and validate accuracy of project budgets by validating against hard estimates or bids, including assessment on all projects, code compliance and development issues. 
  • Provide support and assistance to value-engineer proposals and/or design elements, and assist in buyout research.
  • Read and review blueprints/plans and interpret them in order to determine all trade responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with Business Development Associates on the creation of scopes of work, and in bid openings and contract awards.
  • Communicate regularly and obtain information from the Estimating Team Lead, Director of Operations, Business Development Department and Project Managers as necessary and appropriate. Review finished quotes with Estimating Team Lead, other Estimators, Business Development Department and/or Project Managers; answer questions and make changes as required.
  • Meet with Project Manager at the award of a contract to hand off all pertinent information and ensure a smooth transition for new job.
  • Compile accurate and organized project bids, bid invitations, and proposals on time; completes all necessary bid forms; and follow standard listing of bid exclusions per contract.
  • Prepare cost estimates for change orders in a timely manner and presents to Project Manager.
  • Work effectively with architects, engineers, project managers and customers. Develop and maintain good subcontractor and supplier relationships at all times.
  • Work closely with Business Development Associates to contact and meet with subcontractors to acquire all necessary bids required for a complete bid package.  Maintain awareness of, and account for special project requirements (i.e. bid bonds, insurance, equipment, etc.).
  • Review job costs with Estimating Team Lead and Accounting Dept. to track actual job costs as compared to estimated job costs; adjust estimating programs if necessary.
  • Meet with Project Manager at completion of job to review job costs.
  • Manage the receipt of appropriate bid information, including: requesting bid list from client/contractor in order to receive all information appropriate to the bid process, reviewing bid list and determining specifications according to request including determining the DeLeers standard pricing.     
  • Work closely with Business Development team to prepare bids for submission and coordinates the completion of the bid package including typing and sending according to bid specifications.
  • Monitor overall bid progress, including following up on all Subcontractor/supplier bid requests, tracking status of the bid to determine if DeLeers is remaining part of the consideration process and, if DeLeers is unsuccessful, determining the name of the contractor who was awarded the project.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:                                                                   

  • Work effectively as part of the Estimating Team, sharing information and assisting others as requested.
  • Participate in all department meetings and communications and ensure that all company policies and procedures are followed as they are outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Ability to read construction plans (architectural, MEP, civil drawings), documents, and specifications and comprehend what needs to be done. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures of construction and conceptual estimating, and have good knowledge of work performed by all construction trades. 
  • Proficient in the use of computers and associated computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, MS Project).  Knowledge of Bluebeam software; and Timberline (Sage) Estimating experience is an asset.
  • Strong math skills and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts and cost coding systems is essential. 
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a fast paced team environment. Minimum supervision provided when estimating items in own discipline; may independently estimate several projects at one time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, and masons are regularly subject to variable weather conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, with exposure to dust. Masonry work is primarily physical and often strenuous. WORK RELATIONSHIPS AND SCOPE: 

Works closely with all other PMs, office staff, outside construction crew and painters. This position interacts regularly with internal and external customers and has frequent access to confidential customer information and records.  Works as an integral part of DeLeers team to increase efficiency and profit through accountability (internal and external); taking ownership; good communication; quality; flexibility; customer focus (internal and external); and building positive relationships.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, business or related field, and/or preferably at least five years experience assisting or supervising construction projects of increasing complexity.  Extensive knowledge of construction industry required.
  • Must be familiar with local building codes, industry standards and inspection requirements to ensure appropriate compliance with rules/regulations at all times.
  • Experience with PC usage and associated software (including Microsoft Office and Timberline).  Must possess the ability to effectively learn new computer programs/software.
  • Budget estimating and project scheduling skills required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively; work effectively and efficiently under pressure and time deadlines; analyze problems (not just symptoms); propose reasonable solutions, make logical decisions, carry-out decisions made, and follow up with feedback where appropriate. 
  • Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with all parties involved in construction projects.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is split between an office environment and time spent in the field (outside) with construction crew employees on jobsites, where a minimal exposure to injury exists.  Hours of work will generally be during regular DeLeers Construction business hours.  There will be some variation in work hours due to project work levels, deadlines, and other customer issues.  For example, evenings and/or weekends (especially Saturdays) when necessary to meet with customers. Occasional out-of-town and overnight business travel is required for company business and/or educational purposes, by auto or air travel.

Siding Carpenter

* Hiring for positions in Green Bay and Door County

Responsible for performing tasks involving physical labor at residential and commercial construction job projects. Constructs, erects, installs, and/or repairs fixtures made from wood and other various materials.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Cut and shape materials to prescribed measurements using hand and power tools.
  • Anchor and braces forms, and other structures in place using such fasteners as nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges and timbers.  
  • Lay out and install exterior trim/siding using hand and power tools.
  • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Inspects all work to ensure quality and accuracy and make necessary adjustments.
  • Follows all established safety rules and regulations, and maintain a safe environment
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed at all times
  • Always take responsibility for the care and use of all company-owned equipment
  • Perform any special assignments or projects as requested by Management, Supervisor or Leads.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Course work in skilled crafts or trades training or experience in the field.
  • Must be dependable and be available for scheduled hours
  • Proven ability to read/hear and comprehend basic written and verbal instructions.
  • Proven ability to work as a team.
  • Basic math skills that pertain to the construction industry including fractions and the ability to read a tape measure.
  • Must have good knowledge of the materials, methods, and tools involved in construction.
  • Understand the safe and right use of power and hand tools of the trade.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to climb elevations and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Able to work at heights and up ladders and platforms.
  • Must be able to travel out-of-town for various job projects and stay overnight when required.
  • Must hold, or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Both indoors and outdoors and subject to variable weather conditions
  • Primarily physical and often strenuous. 
  • Frequent work with moving mechanical parts, sharp or rough materials, sharp tools, power equipment, and working in situations where there is risk of slips and falls.
  • Hours of work will generally average 40 to 44 hours a week.

Siding Lead

* Hiring for positions in Green Bay and Door County

Responsible for the supervision of a small crew of workers assigned to individual projects. Work is performed under the general direction of a Superintendent or Project Manager. The Lead provides direction and leadership, supports and holds all field crew responsible and accountable for meeting their responsibilities, goals, commitments, and provides the necessary information and leadership.  They work side by side with laborers, carpenters, and subcontractors, so they must have the capability to complete any activity. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for the efficient organization of crews. The lead is required to be involved in and supportive of any day-to-day disciplinary decisions.
  • Following project plans and schedules and ensuring that crews under their direction meet daily and weekly goals to meet production goals.
  • Ensuring the work done meets standards, and for implementing work processes to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Ensure the safety of all the crews under their direction and understand the importance of the role. 
  • Preparation and review of work reports as required by the company.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Always take responsibility for the care and use of all company-owned equipment which is part of the day-to-day work function. 
  • Represent the Company in a professional manner, and always exhibit courteous and respectful behavior on the job site.
  • Participate in company training programs and attend authorized seminars as required to keep current in company and industry standards.
  • Perform any special assignments or projects as requested by a Superintendent, a Project Manager, or other members of management.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated amount of proficient carpentry experience and knowledge in order to manage small to medium sized construction projects (residential and commercial) as assigned.

  • How to read drawings and interpret specifications.
  • Scope of siding and general knowledge of all other trades and building codes.
  • General knowledge of scheduling, planning and administrative tools and systems.
  • Interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans and sketches, blueprints and specifications.
  • Assess crew skills and coach/teach crew members as needed.
  • Apply good problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Form and implement workforce crew plans and schedules.
  • Effectively use computers and other technology applicable to the job.
  • Can motivate and mentor other crew members.
